Taegetes patula
Modern bedding varieties of Marigold have their origins in the Americas and South Europe. Despite their name, French Marigolds originate from Mexico.
Plant Marigolds from spring until autumn.
Marigolds are quite compact bedding plants reaching 25-30cm in height. They flower about 8 weeks from planting, producing masses of small flower heads.
Flowers come in shades of yellow, orange and rusty reds. Some varieties have bicoloured flowers.
Marigolds grows well in a sunny position in the garden or may be used to create colour tubs or troughs on a patio. Protect plants from strong drying winds.
Marigold grows best when the soil is kept moist by regular watering. Fertilize with a soluble plant food once a month and remove dead flowers to maintain continuous flowering.
